ABSTRACT
A delegate from the Department of Modern and Contemporary History of Saint Petersburg University participated in the work of the international conference held at the National Archive of France. Most of about thirty presentations concerned archival sources. The main goal of the meeting was to provide information on little-known funds, in order to help scholars in choosing the most interesting themes for their research. Several talks were devoted to the biographies of French nationals who lived in Russia and to stories of French banks and businesses that became a part of Russian history for a certain period of time. The round-table discussion of prominent Russian and French historians noted the positive results of the conference, and outlined lacunae for future studies.
