West Virginia hosts 29th ground control conference

The article discusses the highlights of the 29th International Conference on Ground Control in Mining that was held in Morgantown, West Virginia (WV) in the fall of 2010. The conference was initiated by professor Syd S. Peng in 1981, with the aim of bringing together the mining community to discuss and promote technologies to ensure the stability of surrounding rock formations during mining operations. The 2010 event was attended by 300 miners from several countries. Topics discussed include mine design, roof bolting and numerical modeling.
