The article discusses a session on hematopoietic stem cells (HSC), cancer stem cells (CSC) and the HSC niche held at the IX International Meeting on Cancer Induced Bone Disease from October 28-31, 2009 in Arlington, Virginia. Laura Calvi from Rochester, New York discussed that CSCs regulation by the factors that constitute the HSC niche of metastases. William Matsui from Baltimore, Maryland presented data on clonogenic and self-renewal capacity of a small population of multiple myeloma.
