ABSTRACT
An essay on legal or scientific argument related to intelligent design (ID). It focuses on the implications of equal time rhetoric for the secularity of American political institutions. It explores how ID proponents invoke liberal virtues of tolerance and intellectual freedom. Meanwhile, it proposes that ID should be understood as part of a pervasive effort to privatize public institutions.
