ABSTRACT
The author comments on the Medicare and Medicaid plans unveiled by U.S. Representative Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), chairman of the U.S. House Budget Committee, which would convert Medicare into a voucher program and would call for repealing the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The impact of Ryan's plans on senior citizens, revenue and charity care are discussed as well as the move of a group of economists urging congressional leaders to reject Ryan's plans. The implications of U.S. President Barack Obama's proposed Medicare spending caps are tackled.
