ABSTRACT
The author reflects on the anniversary of Earth Day in April 2008 in New Jersey. The event provides an opportunity to think on where the state and the country stand with regard to environmental concerns and energy issues. Environmental and economic considerations set up a conflict, with securing environmental permits being an arduous task. In addition, renewable energy remain in their infancy. The first Earth Day was inspired by the awareness of the entire world as an interconnected whole.
