ABSTRACT
The author reflects on the problems faced by both the colleges and community colleges specifically in terms of state funding and support in the U.S. The declining state support for higher education is reduced from 10% in 1980 to 7% in 2000, making an increase in public school attendance than private ones. This entry reports that community colleges are forced to do more with less yet they are asked to accomplish several things like satisfying the increasing demand for credentialed education and taking on economic development.
