ABSTRACT
The article presents the author's views on what the U.S. should do to handle situation in the Middle East. The author says that the U.S. view is that if war is to be averted, Iran must be pressured sufficiently by economic sanctions to change course. He informs that the main issue is deterrence, and that enemies will fight only when they have a reasonable hope of victory. He recommends supporting friendly regimes in enclaves, with access mainly by sea, and fighting off attacks on the U.S.
