ABSTRACT
The article presents the author's opinion on the current political imbroglio in Iraq in the wake of the rise to prominence of Lt. Gen. Abboud Qanbar as the head of the new Baghdad security operation at the expense of duly-elected Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki. The author views this development as a long-term strategic maneuvering by U.S. President George W. Bush in the face of mounting criticism of his policies related to the U.S. control over Iraq.
