ABSTRACT
The article discusses the various ingredients in lipsticks. The author considers D&C Orange No. 17 and D&C Red No. 40 the most common colors of lipsticks. Since some D&C colors have been linked to cancer and in some cases future use was banned, the author recommends looking for a lipstick made with natural plant or mineral-based pigments. Studies showed that Cleopatra's cochineal beetles are still helpful in providing a rich red lipstick. The author also urged consumers to read lipstick labels.
