ABSTRACT
The article reports on the history of Senegal. Senegal established its Islam religion in the Senegal River Valley in the 11th century. It was also influenced by Mandingo empire and Jolof empire in the 13th and 14th centuries. It also united with French Soudan to form the Mali federation in January 1959. Senegal's first president was Leopold Sedar Senghor who was elected in August 1960.
