ABSTRACT
The article talks about the foreign relations of Guyana. After independence in 1966, the region sought an influential role in international affairs, particularly among Third World and nonaligned nations. Guyana played an important role in the establishment of the Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM), but its status as one of the organization's poorest members limits its ability to exert leadership in regional activities.
