ABSTRACT
A part of The Book of Texas Days, 1984, which chronicles the history of Texas, is presented. It features Richard King, who was a riverboat captain who really was the king of Brownsville and the lower Rio Grande. He controlled the riverboat trade. He married Henrietta Chamberlain, daughter of a missionary. Together they built the greatest ranching empire in the U.S.
