ABSTRACT
Nuclear energy is released by splitting the nuclei of atoms in a process called nuclear fission. Most nuclear reactors use uranium-235 as fuel. There are different types of reactors that produce nuclear power, including pressurized water reactors and fast-breeder reactors. Every stage of the nuclear process creates dangerous radioactive waste that must be disposed of or stockpiled.
