Fundraising's new frontier

An informal industry group led by former CDG Books president Tom Best has put together an ambitious fundraiser for Toronto's Frontier College. The “Spread the Word” campaign culminates on June 7, when Indigo Books and Music will donate 5% of that day's sales across the country to the Frontier College literacy program. Best and various publishing friends-including Michaela Cornell and Kristin Cochrane of Harper-Collins Canada, and Random House of Canada's Marion Garner— first looked into getting involved with Frontier College last spring. Participating publishers have pledged to match the 5% donation from Indigo's sales of their books, based on the actual sale price if the book is discounted, although Indigo's contribution does not depend on publishers agreeing to participate.
