ABSTRACT
The author reflects on the lack of etymological reference of paraphilia in the American Psychiatric Association's (APA) "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders" (DSM). Topics discussed include the distinction given to the disorder pedophilia, the biomedical definition by the DSM of paraphilia, and the psychological reference made by the APA to sexual lore and law.
