ABSTRACT
This article focuses on trends in non-vegetarian, meat based diets. During the early 1970s, the urban regions of many developed nations experienced significant economic growth and the farming industry expanded rapidly to meet the demands of growing populations. In Australia and the United States, agriculture changed from a structure dominated by small scale family-run farms to intensive farms run by giant agribusinesses owned by multinational corporations and producing animals by the millions to reduce unit costs and increase profits.
