The article offers information on gears which form an important part of motion control systems. It discusses design and working of spur gearing and planetary gearing and presents comparison of both stating that planetary gearing can provide five to six times the torque, has a bearing structure that can support an average of 30 times the axial load and 15 times the radial load.
