ABSTRACT
The article describes the success and increasing popularity of charter schools in the United States. The success of charter schools have challenged three axioms about education in the country. These axioms say that only private schools can avoid bureaucratic micromanagement, that school choice can be achieved only through vouchers, and that public education barred the schools against encroachment by capitalism. Charter schools can be visualized as a hybrid public schools with some of the best features of private schools.
