ABSTRACT
The article discusses the financial implications of preventative medicine for health care providers. Several factors that make it difficult to determine whether preventative health care is cost effective are explored, such as the lack of a standard method of calculating the cost of preventative procedures and variation in the medical community regarding prevention standards. Several types of preventative medicine are outlined including prenatal care, corporate wellness programs, and behavioral prevention programs.
