ABSTRACT
The article looks at the relationships between Islam, politics, and international relations, as of 2014. It expresses the view that an oversimplified perspective pointing to a single global struggle between democracy and Islamic extremism is inaccurate and may lead to policies in western countries that isolate Muslims and make them more susceptible to the appeal of radical Islamists who use violence to pursue their aims.
