ABSTRACT
Childbirth educators have a unique opportunity to educate a captive audience; mothers and fathers who are anxious to learn about being good parents. Teaching parents to be responsible and to learn obesity prevention measures is paramount in our current environment where obesity is reaching crisis proportions. Obesity is a problem in the US where 17% of children and more than a third of adults are obese but also worldwide where obesity estimates are 18 million children. Because of their opportunity and expertise, childbirth educators should accept the responsibility to teach parents about obesity prevention.
