ABSTRACT
The article argues that South and North Koreans on both sides of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) have awaited a peace treaty for 60 years since the July 27, 1953 signing of the temporary armistice agreement. It asserts that what the Koreans have gotten instead are an arms race and political repression, as shown by the recent U.S.- South Korea military exercises, scheduled from March 27 through April 2014. It also explores why North Korea is such as militarized nation.
