ABSTRACT
Discontinuous or 'catastrophic' change presents new challenges and problems for library and information science education. This paper outlines the history of developments in library and information science education, with particular reference to the United Kingdom (UK), and explores how the various 'information disciplines' are converging through the impact of information technology. It suggests how catastrophe theory might be applied to understand the processes taking place and the strategies that may be employed to overcome catastrophe, including collaboration and diversification.
