ABSTRACT
The article discusses the use of bibliotherapy and critical literacy as techniques to educate young children regarding difficult social issues such as divorce, death and racism. Introductory details are given noting that teachers should treat difficult subjects not as problems but as normal parts of life and their curricula. An overview is given of the theories and practices of bibliotherapy. Several sample titles are also provided for each of the topics mentioned previously.
