ABSTRACT
The article reports on the U.S. Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service's announcement of a six-month extension to the start of the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) withholding and account due diligence requirements to July 1, 2014. The delay was announced to give foreign financial institutions (FFI) the necessary time to comply with FATCA. The Treasury plans to complete its intergovernmental agreements with foreign countries.
