The article focuses on a correctional census conducted by the U.S. federal government agency Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) to measure the adult correctional population. It presents a chart showing adult residents supervised by the adult correctional system during 2001-2011. It discusses the changes in correctional population components including probationers, parolees and local jail inmates.
