ABSTRACT
This work describes a simple numerical procedure which, applied to a digitally recorded signal, allows the recovery of a spectrum of higher-frequency resolution than the direct use of the fast Fourier transform alone. The advantages of the method and its limitations are analyzed in applications to theoretical functions. The particular use in pulsed photoacoustic spectroscopy is shown when a low concentration (5 ppmV) NO[SUB2] -- air mixture is monitored upon irradiation with) visible laser pulses (∼8 ns full width at half maximum). This way, the shape of the resonance peak is determined with high precision.
