ABSTRACT
The article discusses the cost of Alzheimer's and other dementias in the U.S. including payments from the national health insurance programs, Medicare and Medicaid, and the unpaid hours devoted by friends and family members in caring for people with the disorders. Beth Kallmyer of the Constituent Services for the Alzheimer's Association, suggests the importance of advance planning for people who suffer from dementias to allow them to build their care team and make plans for the future.
