Broadcom Finds Room for Baseband Chips in Low-Cost Smartphones

The article reports that Broadcom Corp. of Irvine, California is securing new business from low-cost smartphone developers in India, China and other Asian countries with turnkey baseband chip segment formerly donimated by Qualcomm Corp. It says that the segment is a new front for the company which has been benefiting on the high-end smartphone market with growing competition between Samsung Electronics Co. and Apple Inc. It adds that K-Touch Mobile underscores efforts of Broadcom to downscale.
