ABSTRACT
Values associated with human rights should be brought into life within every institution and organisation. For this purpose, it is important that everyone and especially students should be given appropriate education on human rights. The purpose of this study is to investigate and put forth to what levels and extent coverage is given to the concern of human rights in elementary school 8th grade students' textbooks and curriculum printed and distributed among schools to form part of the official curricula approved by Ministry of National Education for the academic period 2011-2012. As most work focused on curriculum and textbooks for their presenting printed materials in this study, the use of content analysis based on a qualitative research methodology was preferably adopted. The study treated "human rights" as the main category of concern and accordingly the subcategories were identified. During the study, the educational syllabus was observed to give most coverage to acquisitions in terms of human rights within the theme "Our Rights and Freedoms". As a result of this, attention is drawn to the fact that any information dealing with human rights is principally found under this theme in the textbooks and students' workbooks prepared accordingly.
