ABSTRACT
The article focuses on theoretical and methodological aspects on the studies in European and Scandinavian literacy. A brief overview on the definition of literacy is provided. The areas of focus in European and Scandinavian literacy studies are outlined which include the patterns of communication and the implications of literacy.
