ABSTRACT
When Japan's currency began its precipitous rise two years ago, the Japanese began blaming the `yen monster' for every economic ill. To the dismay of their trading rivals, they have used the rampaging yen, or `endaka' as an excuse for a sweeping restructuring that could leave a streamlined Japan as competitive in the world's markets as it is today. Japan Inc. is becoming leaner and meaner. Restructuring results; Outlook.
