ABSTRACT
The article salutes several African American astronauts including Mae Jemison, Joan E. Higginbotham and Jeanette J. Epps on the occasion of Black History Month. Jemison was the first Black woman to travel into space September 12, 1992. Higginbotham started her career as a Payload Electrical Engineer in the Electrical and Telecommunications Systems Division at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Epps was selected in the 20th NASA astronaut class in July 2009.
