ABSTRACT
This article discusses the threat to elephant and rhinoceros populations in Africa as a result of increased poaching due to high demand for ivory and rhinoceros horn in Asian markets. Topics include the impact of poaching on the tourism industry in Africa, the impetus that extreme poverty in African nations provides for poaching activities, and the inability of African wildlife conservation laws to enact the kind of justice necessary to stem the poaching tide.
