ABSTRACT
The article investigates the science and science fiction of stem cell therapy. It provides a brief history of stem cell therapy beginning from the discovery of the two kinds of stem cells in bone marrows. Three types of stem cells, the embryonic stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells, are being studied by researchers. The applications of stem cells in veterinary medicine are being explored, including for tendon healing, cartilage replacement and immune modulation. INSET: Should you store cord blood?.
