ABSTRACT
The article presents an interview with China's Health Minister Chen Zhu who discusses the three different health insurance schemes, including the New Rural Cooperative Medical Scheme, the Urban Employees Health Insurance and the Urban Residents Health Insurance. He talks about the benefit packages covered by these various schemes, the establishment of the 'Essential Drug List,' and the progress made in expanding use of health information technology. In addition, he states that the major challenges for health policy in China include meeting the rising expectation that come with rapid growth, making provisions for an aging population and an uneven distribution of health care resources.
