ABSTRACT
The article discusses the factors involved for the successful practical use of stem cell research in dentistry. It traces the history of stem cell research. The sources of stem cells includes bone marrow, blood left over in the umbilical cord and placenta of a newborn child. The two major categories of stem cells in dentistry are embryonic stem cells and somatic or adult stem cells. It describes dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs).
