ABSTRACT
The article discusses the August 12, 1949 Geneva Conventions which contributed to the international security. It describes the contribution in two ways such as the respect for the conventions enhances international security and the violations of the conventions may act as a threat to security. The conventions form a part of the common heritage of mankind that are vital in ensuring collective security, and not just constitute the core of international humanitarian law.
