The article offers information on the presentation given by former-chairman Alan Denney of The Welding Society (WJS) titled "Fixed Platforms: A Partial History with Emphasis on Steel and Welding" held in College of North West London, England in October 2012. The presentation started with a history of offshore platforms in Summerland, California in 1896, followed by the Leman and Hewitt fields. Denney also discussed the difficulties in welding tubular members intersecting at an angle.
