ABSTRACT
The article reports that British Antarctic Survey researchers reconstructed the magnitude of oceanic production that developed around the Antarctic Peninsula. The experiment was conducted to test claims that loss of glaciers and ice shelves will increase earth warming and to see if the phenomenon can open up new areas for biological productivity. They report that previously-nonexisting carbon has been incorporated into biological standing stock as the Antarctic Peninsula's ice cover retreats.
