ABSTRACT
The article discusses a paper by Mark Cooper presented at the Symposium on the Future of Nuclear Power in Pennsylvania which suggested the unaffordability of nuclear construction due to unresolved safety issues. Cooper drew his conclusion from the comparison of historical evidence on the state of U.S. nuclear safety from the early years to the ongoing reviews of the 2011 catastrophe at Fukushima, Japan. He explains how the nuclear power industry is caught in a safety web.
