ABSTRACT
SO THAT embarrassing Fine Gael spat with backbencher Peter Mathews was all for nothing, as the Central Bank Governor has now agreed to testify before the Dil's finance committee before we hand over 3.1bn for an Anglo promissory note. It's news that will have given the Government a nasty sinking feeling, because Governor Patrick Honohan simply cannot be trusted to toe the official line and say our bank debt negotiations are proceeding brilliantly. This, after all, is the governor who went on Morning Ireland back in 2010 to say we were in need of a bailout of tens of billions, cutting the ground from under Brian Cowen and his ministers who had been busy insisting everything was tickety-boo.
