ABSTRACT
The article discusses the implications over the introduction of national health insurance (NHI) in South Africa. Noted is the belief by its proponents that it offers the country to comply with the health needs through a single integrated health care system. However, opponents also believed that the initiative is expensive, complex, and that the layered system will just deepen the failure of public health and also reduce the benefits of private health.
