ABSTRACT
The article presents several of the author's portrait-columns and their impact in their respective fields of work. The information service for cancer patients CANHELP was founded by the late Patrick Michael McGrady Jr. AIDS activism was the legacy of Christine Maggiore. Celia Farber's reports on the toxic effects of anti-HIV drugs stirred reactions from leaders of the HIV-AIDS establishment. Dorothy Mullen organized the Suppers for Sobriety in 2006, a nutritional support group for alcoholics.
