ABSTRACT
The article presents a tribute for professor Barry David Schoub on the occasion of his retirement and for his contribution on HIV vaccine research in South Africa. It notes the management style of Schoub as director of the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) and how he mentored and guided several scientists with respect and care. It also mentions his book "AIDS and HIV in Perspective," which provides awareness on the development, transmission and control of the said diseases.
