ABSTRACT
The article discusses the demographics and labor market in Spain. It says that the unemployment rate in the country has averaged 17.9% of the labor force in the second quarter of 2009. Meanwhile, the government has introduced the May 2006 plan which aims to mitigate market segmentation between permanent workers and temporary contract workers as well as to improve incentives for permanent contracts by implementing higher budgetary support.
