ABSTRACT
The article reports on the Southern Carcass Improvement Project (SCIP) which aims to determine how much progress could be made and how much value gained by introducing quality Angus genetics into the typical Southern herd. The study uses 22 beef cows representing Bos indicus-influenced genetics and bred proven Angus sires and Southern sires. Results show that Angus-sired calves had shorter gestation lengths and Southern-sired calves had lighter birth weights.
