ABSTRACT
The article discusses the importance of health literacy among patients in the U.S. It highlights the National Assessment of Adult Literacy study commissioned by the Department of Education (DOE), which reveals that 88 percent of the adults in the country did not possess basic health literacy, leading to poor communication and outcomes in medical intervention. However, it notes the availability various health education materials in the Internet, hospitals and physicians to address the problem.
