ABSTRACT
The article considers the health and safety implications of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant disaster in Japan. The willingness of technical experts and firefighters at the stricken Fukushima Daiichi power station to expose themselves to high personal risk to avert a potentially apocalyptic nuclear disaster is attributed to the collective work ethic of the Japanese. Emphasis is given on the need for workers to have the highest levels of preventive and emergency care before, during and after exposure to nuclear radiation.
